Zhang Xuecheng was a famous literary and historical master in the Qing Dynasty. The dual identities of writers and historians greatly influenced the perspective and focus of future researchers on their interpretation.Zhang Xuecheng’s construction of the ancient prose system stems from his emphasis on history.Starting from this system,he deconstructed and constructed the ancient texts in an ingenious way,and fully and clearly reflected his efforts to integrate literature and history. The Eight Great Masters of the Tang and Song Dynasties and the Tongcheng School,as representatives of ancient classical Chinese language, naturally became the object of Zhang Xuecheng’s criticism. At present, the academic circles have not carried out a good demonstration of this, and it is necessary to conduct a detailed analysis and in-depth discussion on it.This thesis consists of five chapters. The first two chapters analyze the cause and internal logic of Zhang Xuecheng’s system of ancient writing, and the last three chapters discuss Zhang Xuecheng’s theoretical system and review the two major schools of ancient writing in the history of ancient writing. The first chapter is "The Wrestling with Dai Zhen: The Discrimination of the Six Classics of Taoism".It mainly discusses that under the academic background of the dispute between the Han and Song Dynasties during the Qian and Jia years of the Qing Dynasty,in the face of the dispute over "justification, textual research, and rhetoric" in the academic world,Zhang Xuecheng intervened in it as a historian. It analyzes the connotation of "Tao" in detail, criticizes Dai Zhen, who has caused the malpractice of the ethos, and at the same time provides help to the declining Neo-Confucianists.The second chapter is "Name Rectification and Reconstruction: Zhang Xuecheng’s Ancient Prose System".It mainly discusses the academic background of the dispute between Sinology and Songology during the Qianjia period of the Qing Dynasty. In the face of the scholastic scholars who were confined to the six classics, and because the ancient writers were not good at classics and devoted themselves to diction, they generally devalued the effect of the articles on the Tao.Zhang Xuecheng reinterpreted the ancient texts.Connotation,on the one hand, based on the academic thought of "six classics are all history",re-analyzing what Tao is,and rectifying the effect of ancient texts on the world and inheriting the "Tao";It deconstructs and reconstructs another ancient text system based on history, trying to get rid of the flashy drawbacks brought by ancient texts because of Zongjing. The third chapter is "Taking History as a Mirror: On Zhang Xuecheng’s Criticism of the Eight Great Masters of the Tang and Song Dynasties".It mainly discusses Zhang Xuecheng’s academic thought based on "six classics are all history",re-examines the ideas and methods of the ancient writings of the eight masters of the Tang and Song Dynasties, from the eight ancient writings "Zongjing rather than history",revising the history and focusing on the text and neglecting the matter, neglecting the school, and inscriptions on the monument. When waiting for four aspects, the eight companies were systematically criticized for the first time. The fourth chapter is "Behind Criticism(Part 1)-On Zhang Xuecheng’s Criticism of Tongcheng School of Criticism".Zhang Xuecheng mainly discusses Zhang Xuecheng from the commentary of Gui Youguang’s "Historical Records" and then criticizes the Tongcheng School’s commentary.Based on his own concept of literature and history and the concept of school,he criticizes the commentary based only on rhetoric and legal essays and takes it as the secret of teaching. It is believed that it has inherited the style of the times since the Song and Ming Dynasties. He tried to carry out his teaching philosophy of ancient writing based on historiography, and get rid of the ills of ancient writing caused by the selection of books. The fifth chapter is "Behind the Criticism(Part Two)-New Theory on the Relationship between Zhang Xuecheng and the Tongcheng School".It mainly starts with Zhang Xuecheng’s criticism of Tongcheng School’s "Yifa" papers,Fang Bao’s deletion and modification of ancient texts, and Tongcheng School’s creation of longevity prefaces.Criticism theories are compared and the conclusion is drawn that the two are different in appearance. This article does not pursue the perfect harmony of the system, but is guided by specific problems, pursuing the internal rationale and external criticism practice of Zhang Xuecheng’s ancient prose theoretical system. In the process of correspondence and dislocation,we can appreciate the charm of Zhang Xuecheng’s construction of a unique ancient text system and its application, and witness the complexity of Qing Dynasty academic thought and literary criticism, and promote the in-depth and development of Zhang Xuecheng and related research.
