| With the continuous development of Internet information technology and the digitization of Chinese TV dramas,Chinese online suspense dramas have been innovating their mirror language systems,ideological practices and production and dissemination modes in the media development changes of absorption,transplantation,transcreation and integration.After the magnificent comeback of Chinese web-suspense dramas in the web-based video content track,they have become one of the most popular web drama genres,and have received much attention from overseas markets and users,forming a certain international communication influence.However,behind the rapid development of Chinese online suspense dramas,there are also chaos in the creation of genres,such as blindly following the trend of creation,lack of suspense,logical loopholes,and fudging.At the same time,the successful models and outstanding problems in the production and dissemination of Chinese online suspense dramas have triggered active discussions in the industry and academia.Firstly,a summary of international studies reveals that Chinese and Western suspense culture has been influenced by social history and cultural traditions and has shown different development paths,especially domestic scholars’ studies on the historical development of online suspense dramas show a compartmentalized and stemmed situation,lacking systematic summarization and refinement.Secondly,due to the differences in the understanding of Chinese and Western suspense culture,the concept of online suspense dramas varies,and there is no general understanding yet.Finally,compared with the booming development of the online suspense drama industry,the systematic theoretical research in the academic field has lagged behind,and scientific and effective theoretical responses are urgently needed.In view of this,this study mainly selects high-quality Chinese online suspense dramas broadcasted on streaming media platforms from 2010 to 2022 as research texts,and uses interdisciplinary frontier theories such as cognitive reference points,technological availability,and modalities to conduct a holographic and three-dimensional study on the text,platform,production,and dissemination of contemporary Chinese online suspense dramas through textual analysis,comparative research,and interdisciplinary research methods.Above all,in the analysis of the conceptual definition and development trajectory of Chinese online suspense dramas,this paper develops a general understanding of the concept and morphological characteristics of Chinese online suspense dramas in the corresponding etymological tracing and historical examination;second,in the research related to the genre genealogy and artistic innovation of Chinese online suspense dramas,this paper refers to the literary prototypes of Chinese online suspense dramas(detective mystery literary novels)and their artistic innovation based on the theoretical research of film and television genre.Based on the theoretical research on film and television genre,this paper makes reference to the literary prototypes of Chinese online mystery dramas(detective mystery literary novels)and the influencing factors of their film and television texts,and classifies the refined genres of such dramas according to the textual content and style of Chinese online mystery dramas.The study concludes that the genre spectrum of Chinese online mystery dramas can be roughly divided into three major genres,namely,the Benguet school of formal logic and psychological fantasy,the social school of social symptoms and complex human nature,and the fantasy school of visual dreaming and eerie atmosphere.In addition,the study finds that Chinese online mystery dramas have developed artistic innovations of "genre superposition," "genre to society," and "elimination of dichotomy" in the industrial creation practice.Third,this paper applies Danish scholar Jakob Lothe’s narrative theoretical framework to the analysis of the narrative mechanism of Chinese online suspense dramas,and explores the deep structure of their textual narratives.The study considers the unreliable narrative of authenticity,the intricate narrative levels,and the audiovisual narrative distance from far to near as the main strategies for building the textual narrative communication system.In terms of narrative time,creators create a suspense effect by adjusting the chronology,time distance,and frequency to confuse the physical time of the storyline with the psychological time of the audience users.In terms of narrative space,the online suspense drama constructs a reminiscence space co-constructed by strong emotions and perverse objects.The core and devastating event structure and the multiple tragic characters are also an indispensable part of the narrative of online suspense dramas.Fourth,from an epistemological perspective,this paper explores the production and dissemination mode of Chinese online suspense dramas in the era of intelligent media through theories related to media technology and media availability.Under the digital technology empowerment and network media drive,the Internet user-oriented creative production has given rise to a collaborative production mechanism of online suspense dramas from "platform decision" to "user decision" and then to "technology availability".The collaborative production mechanism of "platform decision","user decision",and "technology availability" has refined the content and aesthetic creation experience in harmony with the fashion of the times,such as the incubation of innovative content such as IP series,micro-short dramas,unit dramas,and interactive dramas.In addition,online suspense dramas,growing in the Internet media ecology,have also been tainted by the Internet’s fascination with diverse communication mechanisms,showing digital communication and marketing qualities such as personalized algorithmic recommendations of communication agencies and platform awareness of cross-media communication,interesting circle interaction of digital nomadic media users,and user profile market segmentation and pendant communication operations.Finally,in the analysis of cultural interests and overseas dissemination of Chinese online suspense dramas,this paper explores the feasibility of overseas dissemination of Chinese online suspense dramas based on extracting the cultural interests presented in the works of domestic online suspense dramas and focusing on the globalization perspective of film and television.The study concludes that through the absorption and re-exportation of the mature Western suspense industry experience,the global interpretation of generic texts,and the construction of a knowable community,Chinese online suspense dramas can largely realize the availability of resources,the possibility of texts,and the feasibility of culture for overseas dissemination.Overall,based on multidisciplinary theoretical resources and specific practical cases,this study conducts an in-depth research on the genre genealogy,narrative mechanism and production and dissemination of contemporary Chinese online suspense dramas,which can enrich the theoretical materials for the study of Chinese online suspense dramas,with a view to providing some useful guidance for the future practice of Chinese online suspense drama industry. |
