| Well-being is not only a life goal pursued by everyone but the ultimate goal of social development with the progress in time. With the continuous development of economy and society, tourism has become an important indicator showing the improvement of people’s living standards, and an important way of life, learning and growth to enhance the quality of life and well-being.The well-being enhancement effect of tourism is becoming increasingly prominent, and “tourism and well-being” has become the focus of attention from all walks of life.As one of the driving forces for the integration of regional economic, social, cultural and ecological elements, tourismization is an important force and development method to promote regional socio-economic development. On account of the core ideology of people orientation, enhancing national well-being for the sustainable promotion is regarded as its fundamental goal and value orientation. Therefore, the process of tourismization will bring all-round and multi-body well-being enhancement. As one of the important research topics in social sciences, the correlation between tourismization and national well-being provides a new entry point for the study of people’s well-being.Therefore,no matter theoretically or practically,it is of great significance to systematically explore the impact of tourismization on national well-being which may enhance people’s well-being and promote the process of sustainable tourismization.Based on the combing of the theoretical system of tourismization, this study constructs a theoretical analysis framework for the impact of tourism on well-being and elaborates its effect and mechanism systematically.Based on the comprehensive evaluation index system of tourismization, the level of tourismization in China’s provinces is measured and match with the four-phase panel data of the CFPS database from 2010 to 2018.Then the effect and characteristics of the impact of tourismization on national well-being in China is verified empirically by conducting mixed OLS,panel ordered logit and panel ordered probit models respectively, and the method of stepwise regression analysis is used to test the impact mechanism of tourismization on national well-being in the mediating effect model. The results of the study prove the theoretical hypothesis that the process of tourismization will help to improve the national well-being,and the “well-being stagnation” dilemma can be solved by tourismization.Accordingly, the article proposes some policy recommendations for the promotion of sustainable tourismization based on the improvement of national well-being.The main conclusions of this study are:(1)The level of tourismization in China shows a rising trend year by year, and there are regional differences. The level of tourismization in the eastern region is ahead of the central and western regions and the northeastern region, the contribution of inter-regional differences to the overall differences gradually decreases, the spatial agglomeration effect shows an increasing trend, and the overall level of tourismization in the provinces shows the stepwise difference and “unbalanced” characteristics of “high in the east and low in the west”.(2)As a whole,Chinese citizens are in a state of relative happiness and the level of national well-being tends to be stable. There are differences among regions, provinces and groups.(3)The process of tourismization significantly improves people’s well-being,and there are certain lagging effects, heterogeneity and dynamics.Among them, the impact on the well-being of residents in the central region and the countryside is higher than that in the east and west, the northeast and the towns. The enhancement effect in the western region is beginning to appear, while it is not yet obvious in the northeastern region. This indicates that the less developed regions, represented by the central region, are actively utilizing their late-mover advantages, and continue to advance the tourismization process, which effectively exerts the well-being enhancement effect.Meanwhile, the increasing wellbeing effect of tourismization in the rural area is becoming an important driving force for rural revitalization. In addition, the impact of tourismization on well-being has changed steadily, especially in 2016.The role of tourismization in enhancing well-being has increased significantly, which may benefit from the implementation and promotion of the national all-for-one tourism strategy.(4)Different dimensions of tourismization have different effects on people’s well-being.Spatial tourismization has the greatest effect on national well-being,especially on the advancement of rural residents’ well-being.It is obvious to see the positive effect of industrial tourismization, while the effect of consumer recreation is less apparent.(5)The process of tourismization will contribute to national well-being through multiple paths.Economic growth, income disparity, social capital, and ecological environment play transmission effect in influencing national well-being through tourismization process.Tourismization will promote the purpose value of national well-being by means of the instrumental values of economic,socio-cultural,and ecological effects. The above conclusions will provide theoretical and empirical evidence for policy formulation and evaluation to enhance national well-being and promote sustainable tourismization. This study makes the following innovative work:(1)The research progress in tourismization at home and abroad is comprehensively reviewed.Based on this,a conceptual model of tourismization,a value system and a comprehensive evaluation index system are constructed respectively, which enriches the tourismization theories and lays a certain theoretical basis for promoting the regional tourismization.(2)This study puts forward a theoretical analysis framework for the impact of tourismization on national well-being.The impact effect and mechanism are discussed, which expands the analytical perspectives of well-being research, deepens the research content of tourism impact, and to a certain extent widens the theory boundary for research on the relationship between tourism and well-being.(3)The effects and transmission mechanism of tourismization on national well-being are examined in multiple ways, including both static and dynamic effects, regional and urban-rural differences,sub-dimension effects of tourismization and their heterogeneity, mediating effects, etc. The findings of the study can provide a decision-making basis and strong support for the promotion of national well-being and sustainable tourismization. |
