Study On The Communication Function Of Internet Buzzwords

In December 2021,the network buzzwords of 2021 were released: great changes unseen in a century,carbon neutrality,common prosperity,awakening era,double reduction,lying flat,breaking prevention,YYDS,social fear,EMO...The annual inventory of network buzzwords has become a cultural phenomenon at the end and the beginning of the year.These network buzzwords are just like the mark of the times,recording the changes of the society,carrying the common memory,reflecting the rich picture of social transformation,expressing the joys and sorrows of netizens,and also reflecting the language keeping pace with the times.Asémile Durkheim,one of the three founders of sociology,pointed out,language is the product of society,and a systematic covariance relationship exists between language and society.Rooted in the social development and changes,the buzzwords,synchronized with the development and transformation of social civilization as a mirror,playing a role of social mirroring.Since the beginning of buzzwords’ development,it has been and is still benefited from the booming of Internet technology and the nourishment of the post-modernism trend.At present,with its vigorous development,it has served as the “Barometer” of public opinion and “Megaphone” of public opinion expression to convey the opinion of common people,the rising power of which can’t be underestimated.Because that both of the network buzzwords and discourse analysis are influenced by postmodernism,they have a natural affinity.In addition,discourse analysis and communication studies are conducted on semantic care,so this research try to research on discourse analysis and the spread of network buzzwords,according to the theory of critical discourse analysis as the main line theory,and its three dimensions——text analysis,discourse practice and social practice——are used as the analysis framework of this research.Functionalism theory,postmodernism and social representation theory are used as sub-line theories to study the communication function of network buzzwords from interdisciplinary perspectives such as linguistics,sociology and communication science.In the words of "text analysis",this study based on the network catchword transmission function to play a "text" foundation of linguistics,with a 1994-2021 annual 485 Internet buzzwords as the research sample,using mixed methods(a combination of qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis),research network catchword in pronunciation,vocabulary,grammar,linguistic characteristics of etymology,pragmatics,etc.Based on the "inward" textual research of linguistic ontology,this paper jumps out of the "text" to the extension and adopts the diachronic and dynamic perspective to analyze the rheological characteristics of network buzzwords at different stages of social and Internet development in order to predict their rheological trends.From the perspective of "discourse practice",this study focuses on the "discourse practice" process,also namely,the communication process.This chapter focuses on the "intertextuality" in the application of discourse practice,analyzing the dissemination process of Internet buzzwords as discourse,which is the subject projection in the “Deconstruction”space---“Second Interpretation” of Discourse---Group Identity and the Promotion of Multiple Discourse Subjects---Communication Destination: Folk Construction and Official Discipline.In the "social practice" aspect of discourse,this study focuses on the positive and negative functions of network buzzwords as discourse,and reflects on their constructive implicit functions.In terms of positive functions,such as acting as a social “safety valve” to vent the energy of “attack” it promotes the function of public opinion supervision,boosting the improvement of social governance capabilities and group “carnival” brings spiritual pleasure,improving communication efficiency and bringing social interaction distance,etc.On the contrary,negative functions are “social anesthesia”,which leads to illusory satisfaction and “laying flat”;or “cultivating” false cognition and weakening social action.In addition,it can also be pointed as “herding” psychology,which causes the elimination of responsibility and lack of position;“Young flatter” impulse causing expectations to violate and group anomie;alienated by the “device paradigm”,which result in the expression converges to a single low level,etc.In addition,this paper’s reflection on the construction function of network buzzwords,especially the three functions of discourse to construct identity,social relations,ideas and analysis of discourse strategies,as well as the whole process of discourse power game,is groundbreaking to some extent.On this basis,this research is aimed at achieving the expected goal of the “three actions”.In detail,from the perspective of text analysis of the diachronic changes and the discourse practice of the production and dissemination of Internet buzzwords,this paper proposes to provide a insight of clear-minded bystander as a reference for netizen to improve their discrimination and media literacy;to provide direct guidance for the media to grasp the rheological characteristics of Internet buzzwords,and grasp the social mentality and communication preferences of netizens,so as to better guide public opinion;to provide reference for the government to improve governance capabilities of solving social and public issues of people’s livelihood concerns,promoting the stable development of society,and improving the modernization.
