Study On Zhuangzi's Philosophy Of Technology

The depth of Zhuangzi's technical philosophy thought roots in the original ways and view of that he cherish the value and perception of life, and he believed piously that the humans'behavior, including all their technical activities, must be based on this point, to keep intact the purity and simplicity of life and to enrich it, that is, must accord with the goal of "yang sheng".In the statement of Zhuangzi about the relationship between "tao" and technology, he stressed a point that the transformation from "tao" to technology expressed that "tao" as the distinctive connotation act on technology maked the existence of it, and made the technology get to the "top degree", that is due to the superiority of the thinking method of "tao" comparing with the thinking method of technology.Based on this, in the practice of the theory of "the Tao guide the technology", Zhuangzi divided technology to "obeying tao" and "disobeying tao", and began to think over the technology of "disobeying tao" critically. He thought the mechanical technology is such kind of "disobeying tao" technology. The essence of such technology is the thinking method of technology. The formation of that technology thinking style is that "mechanism—machines do—opportunism—the soul like mechanism". Actually, the thinking style of technology has no boundaries, and it can't come back to itself, that means it should create something. The disadvantage of this kind of thinking style is the one-sidedness of the value orientation, and it will do harm to the purity and simplicity of life eventually. So we must surpass this kind of thinking style. On the position of relativism, Zhuangzi put the strategy that how to surpass, and express the way of "the Tao guide the technology" in order to protect the wholeness and the richness of life. In a word, the most valuable thing that Zhuangzi's technical philosophy thought gave the people is, no matter when, the thinking method of technology can not take the key place of human thinking view, and the development of technology must obey the rule of the "tao" of nature and must protect the purity and simplicity of life.
