An augmented reality (AR) system generates a composite view for the user. It is a combination of the real scene viewed by the user and a virtual reality (VR) scene generated by the computer that augments the scene with additional information. It is a new technology which can combine the real world information with the virtual world information seamless. The main purpose of this paper is to propose a method of superimposeing the virtual information in the object position within the real-time video to provide geological guidance. Through video processing the virtual geographic information and the real-world scenarios invideo will be fused. So people can find the information they want without having to identify the direction. This paper is consisted of three parts according to the purpose of the study. The part one includes the first two chapters, and we introduce the theories of project geometry and the knowledge of the Geological Information Positioning System involved. In part two, we introduce the steps of system design and implementation, then we present the experimental results of Geological Information Positioning System. The result indicates that it is an efficient method in field of Geological Information Positioning. In part three, we introduce the transplanting of the Geological Information Positioning System from Windows workbench into embedded Linux.
