SNS has been rapidly getting popular in China in recent years. However the SNS applications have mainly involved the big population of MWs. Why is it so? And how can it be changed? In order to explore how to develop SNS applications for this underserved population, we have been attempting to design a migrant workers'job hunting social networking service. As the first step, we conducted an ethnographic study to understand the feature of MWs'social relationships and its role in their job hunting practice. We also, as a pilot, designed and evaluated a prototype SNS application Gong You on smart phones to support MWs'job hunting. This paper work is constituted of four parts, literature review, requirements analysis, solution design, and technology prototype development. Firstly, the author studies the status of the migrant workers'job hunting and summarizes the related work at home and abroad. Then the author studies the social network of the migrant workers, the role in job hunting by storytelling, and gains the user needs. After that, the author do the concept design, interactive design and interface design of Gongyou. Gets three groups prototype design scheme, selects the best one to draw a sketch, and develops the hi-fi prototype of Gongyou according to the sketch. An heuristic evaluation has been done to improve the hi-fi prototype, and two user testing have also been done, on one hand, to verify and expand the concept, on the other hand, improve the interactive design, discover the existing usability issues and gradually improve the prototype. Finally, after visual design, the author develops the technology prototype of Gongyou.According to this research, we summarize the ability of the migrant workers in using ICT production, the familiarity about SNS culture, the influencing factors in using similar production. We also accumulate experience of research methods. We hope to provide reference experience for the following similar research.
