Photonic crystal (PC) is a spatial periodic dielectric structure, which is a new kind of functional materials arised from the late 1980s. With different dielectric coefficient materials periodically arrayed in the space, photonic crystals (PCs) prevent the transmitting of some electromagnetic spectrum. In recent years, colloidal crystal self-assembly properties were coupled with traditional application of gel which was used in the drug release, optical switch, the metal probe, biosensor and other new applied research. In the development of new materials and its clinical application obtained tremendous progress.In this thesis, preparation and control by selecting processing conditions, the gel was prepared by two different photonic crystals, and then analyze the testing. The main contents include the following three parts:The first part, the system fully investigated and summarizes the synthesis of silica, synthetic routes, synthetic formulation and reaction conditions, established for this laboratory monodisperse silica microspheres, we obtain high roundness narrow particle size distribution of monodisperse polystyrene microspheres, the formation of visible light to meet the requirements of colloidal crystals. Then, for the preparation of a single sub-silica spheres, using the vertical deposition method self-assemble into face-centered cubic crystal periodic structure. Studied using optical spectroscopy face-centered cubic colloidal crystal photonic band gap effect is not entirely the use of field emission scanning electron microscopy of the colloidal crystal and the defect of the structural characteristics. By reflection spectra and scanning electron micrographs of judging to determine and optimize the emulsion main process parameters for future experiments laid the foundation.The second part, on the use of capillary osmosis assembly of the template polystyrene filling the surface with 2-acrylamido-2- methyl propane sulfonic acid functional monomer precursor fluid, cross-linking polymerization, obtained with sulfonic functional groups of opal photonic crystal structure of gel. Opal photonic crystal structure of the gel structure of bright color to show and maintain the long-range ordered periodic structure, and solution of water, pH, ionic strength, better responsiveness, and regular patterns. Photonic crystals because of gel conditions in response to external stimulation, if the pH, temperature, electric field and other changes will produce a strong volume expansion, contraction. Gel photonic crystal structure of the volume change caused by constant change will lead to a great band mobile, thus changes the optical properties are directly observed by the naked eye. This could be the chemical signal into an optical signal readable, even color change. The third part, the use of capillary osmosis assembly of the surface of polystyrene template microspheres filled with 2-acrylamido-2-methyl propane sulfonic acid and N-isopropyl acrylamide monomer precursor solution crosslinked polymer, obtained with the temperature sensitive gel photonic crystals, and investigated with N-isopropyl acrylamide gel to explore the nature of 2-acrylamido-2-methyl propane sulfonic acid/ N-isopropyl acrylamide copolymer gel properties of photonic crystals. In order to lay a good foundation application.
