In this paper, a color method for spectral measurement was explored. Compared with existing methods, the beam splitter system of narrow-band light spectral measurement can be simplified by this method. It is hopeful to simplify structure and operation and lower the price of spectral measurement instrument. Main content on the paper is summarized as follows:First of all, based on the principles of photometry and chromatology, the Working Mechanism of spectral and color measurement has been done. By comparing existing spectrum measurement method, it is pointed out that limitation of existing methods and the measures that can restrain or eliminate these disadvantageous factors are discussed.Second, according to the results of measurement experiments of laser spot based on CCD, changes of RGB value of laser spot under different light intensity is researched. Then Experimental Device and Image Processing Software are also introduced. And the results of measurement experiments is also analyzed and discussed qualitatively.Third, the design scheme used for color measurement is proposed. The hardware and software based on MSP430 were designed and fabricated. According to the results of measurement experiments of RGB value and light intensity based on TCS230, the relationship between RGB value and light intensity is researched. Then the model of the relationship between RGB value and the central wavelength of narrow-band light is summarized. And the results of measurement experiments are also analyzed theoretically.Fourth, based on experiment data and BP neural network combined with different wavelet basis function, two models of the relationship between RGB value and the central wavelength are established and compared. The results show that prediction error much smaller by Mexican hat wavelet.This color method for spectral measurement is a new method. Main research results of this paper are as follows: The model of the relationship between RGB value and wavelength is established and Spectrum measurement system based on color method is designed and finished. Compared to the spectral instrument of foreign with resolution of 0.1nm, the low-frequency band resolution of this system was 2.5nm.
