Suspended Two-Degree-Of-Freedom gyrocompass is the main part of gyro-theodolite. It is meaningful to analyze the law of motion and influence caused by extern factors of gyrocompass correctly in industrial applications. In this paper, by regarding the part of casing as a rigid body, we give the mechanical model. In the model, the motion of casing can be considered as two parts: the motion of translation along with its center of mass and the motion of rotation around the center of mass. Based on the theory of compound motion, the influence of the rotation of the earth on the motion of gyrocompass is discussed and analyzed. Using the motion of center of mass theorem and Euler kinetics equation, differential motion equations are derived and, the motion in the ideal conditions is analyzed and the numerical values are calculated. We analyze why the traditional explanation of the motion law of gyrocompass are error and a reasonable explanation is provided. By altering the parameters of gyrocompass, the survey time and motion stability of gyrocompass are studied.
