To demonstrate the relationship between aging and changes of brain Nitric Oxide (NO) content, nitric oxide synthase (NOS) activity, immune system functions and aging; and to provide a mechanism for antiaging effect of Oviductus Ranae. The aging model was induced by excessive D-galactose. The ability of learning and memory in aging model mice was explored by step down test; NO content of brain in aging model mice was measured by nitrare reductase method; Tissue NOS activity was determined by spectrophotometric method; The effect of Oviductus Ranae on immune function of aging model mice was detected by weighting immuneorgan method, the clearance of charcal particles method and the hemolysin of serum method. The results showed that Oviductus Ranae could obviously enhance the ability of learning and memory in aging model mice; markedly raise NO content and NOS activity of aging model mice; increase the weight of thymus and spleen of the aging model mice; significantly enhance the clearance rate K of charcal particles of spleen in model mice; improve the spleen function of monocyte; as well as increase the hemolysin concentration in serum. The results also indicated that the decrease of the ability of learning and memory, phagocytosis function and the immune system function were result from the lessen of NOS activity and NO content of aging model mice. Oviductus Ranae has the effect of raising the ability of learning and memory, NO content, NOS activity, cell and nonidiosyncrasy immune function of aging model mice. The results confirmed that Oviductus Ranae had antiaging effect, provided a mechanism of antiaging effect on organic and molecular level.
