Bamboo is the main food of the endangered animal- giant panda. It is the important part of the habitat of giant panda. Qinling Mountain is one of the main giant panda's habitat and the study of the bamboo is vital for the protection of giant panda .This thesis is on the classification and distribution of the bamboos as the main food of giant panda surveyed mainly in Changqing and Foping National Nature Reserve together with the biomass of Bashania fargesii (E. G. Camus) Keng f. et Yi. The main results are highlighted in the following.1. There are 9 species of wild bamboos in giant panda s habitat: Chimononambambusa angustifolia C. D. Chu et C. S. Chao, Bashania fargesii (E. G. Camus) Keng f. et Yi, Bashania aristata Y. Ren, Y. Li et G. D. Dang, Indocalamus latifolius (Keng) McClure, Indocalamus bashanensis (C. D. Chu et C. S. Chao) H. R. Zhao et Y. L. Yang, Fargesia qinlingensis Yi et J. X. Shao, Fargesia dracocephala Yi, Fargesia nitida (Mitford) Keng f. ex Yi. New species Bashania aristata Y. Ren, Y. Li et G. D. Dang is separated from Bashania fargesii (E. G. Camus) Keng f. et Yi by the fully-developed sheath-ear, the obvious arista on the lemma.2. Bashania fargesii, Fargesia qinlingensis and Fargesia dracocephala are the most important for the giant panda living there. Bashania fargesii is distributed primarily between the elevation of 1000 and 1900m. Fargesia qinlingensis is found between the elevation of 1000m and 3100m but mainly between the elevation of 2200m and 2800m. Fargesia dracocephala is found in certain place such as Daxihe between the elevation of 1100m and 2100m.
