Jilin oil field, whose annual output is more than 4000 thousand tons, is one of eastern oil fields in China and it plays an important role in our domestic economy construction. Yitong basin is a big inland basin which was formed in Cainozoic. Chaluhe depression, which lies in the Yitong, is a promising area for long-term oil and gas reservoir exploration. These strata of basin are made up of Cretaceous period, Tertiary period and Quaternary period. Tertiary period is the major sediment in the basin and the biggest thickness is up to five thousand meters. This thesis studies the petrology and characteristic of the diagenetic process of the reservoir. According to the transformation of the clay mineral, the author classified the Tertiary period into five periods. The relation between diagenetic process and the secondary porosity space and the influence of clay mineral are analysed. The author established the sedimentary sequence models and studied the favourable modles. On the basis of research, the characteristic of the reservoir in Chaluhe are summarized and the favourable area of oil and gas in Chaluhe depression is analysed and predicted.
