A Taxonomic Study On The Genus Quercus In Henan Province

In this paper, the brief history and current condition in the classification of the genus Quercus L. have been reviewed. The principles and the foundations of the genus have been also inquired into. I agree on the treatment of Oersted which separated the genus Cyclobalanopsis Oersted from the genus Quercus L. At the same time, the author states that the principal classification foundation in section separated is the character of cupule other than forlia and fruit,the relationship between Sect. Aegilops (Reicherb.) Schwarz and other sections in Quercus L. is fairly far.By studying the species of Quercus L. in Henan province, the author confirms the species are add up to 18 species and 3 varieties and 3 formations, which belong to 3 sections. Two of them, Q.stewardii Rehd. and Q.fenchengensis H.W.Jen, are newly-recorded in Henan province. Twelve names of Flora Henan have been revised as follows:Q.variablis var. Pramidalis T.B.Chao and Q.variablis var. Megaphylla T.B.Chao have been treated as a synonym of Q.variabilis B1.;Q.acutidentata Koidz., Q.acutidentata var. Calvescens Liou, Q.acutidentata var. Latiforlia Liou and Q.liouana Cheng et T.Hong have been treated as a synonym of Q.aliena var. acuteserrata Maxim, ex Wenzig;Q.aliena var. Pellucida Bl. has been treated as a synonym of Q.aliena Bl.; Q.uercus gldulifera Bl.and Q.glandulifera var. brevipetilata A.DC. have been individually treated as synonym of Q.serrata Thunb. and Q.serrata Thunb. var. brevipetilata (A.DC.) Nakai . Q.glandulifera var. Tomentosa B.C.Ding et T.B.Chao has been combined as Q.serrata Thunb. var. serrata f. tomentosa X.L.Hou;33Q.liaotungensis Koidz.has been revised as Q.wutaishanica Mayr. Q.baronii var.capillata Liou has been treated as a synonym of Q.baroniiSkan.Moreover, a systematic arrangement on the genus in Henan province and a artificial Key to species have been made. Descriptions have been given to the genus, sections, species and the varieties; The distribution, habits and main uses have been recorded. Some species have also been briefly discussed.
