Offshore petroleum platform, as one of the most efficient tool indeploring marine energy, is specially noticed in its design, usage andmaintenance for seeking its structure reliability and maximum economicalbenefit. But according to current research, traditional safety coefficientmethod is not valid any longer. Structure reliability theory is available.So, design research based reliability theory becomes more and moreactive. Incorporating our structural design details, basic design researchbased reliability is done in this paper First of all, accurate computation of reliability index and sensitivityis established on basis of research of reliability theory. Secondly, design parameters based reliability in marine platform areascertained. And their statistic characters are set up. Thirdly, taking sample of SZ36-1 platform, its reliability index iscalculated using API RP-2A-WSD method and API RP2A-LRFDrespectively. Importance of resistance effect coefficients in APIRP2A-LRFD is analyzed. Finally, taking sample of SZ36-1 platform, sensitivities of loadeffect coefficient, resistance effect coefficient and reliability of bracesand pipe joints are calculated. A lot of important results are obtained.These results are significant to the design of marine platform.
