The fiber positioning system was discussed, which was one of the important technologies for LAMOST held in National Astronomical Observatory. Instead of 640 fibers, it realized the large area multi-object observation by use of 4 000 fibers.According the request of project, mechanical character, controlling and positioning method were firstly analysized. Then through studying geometry modeling, convex hull, polygon collision test and other arithmetic, the positioning, controlling and collision test method are proposed which are suitable for radial coordinates unit. Finally they were realized in virtual system. The experiments were designed for testing fiber's positioning precision, controlling time, fiber rate of utilization. The experimental data were obtained which totally reach specification requirement for the project. This result has established the foundation for the research work of fiber positioning. At the same time control method and collision test algorithm have guidance meanings to real fiber positioning system.
