Based on data from samples that collected at four stations in a transection from Qingdao to Chejudo Island in August 2002 and that collected at 19 stations spreading in the Yellow Sea in June 2003, the species compos tion, abundance, biodiversity and the correlation with environments of the benthic boundary layer (BBL) fauna in the pelagic-benthic interface of the Yellow Sea were studied in this paper. The results showed that Suprabenthos and Mesozooplankton were the main BBL fauna. Euterpina acutifrons, Microsetella norvegica, Danielssenia typica, Paracalanus parvus, Acartia bifilosa and so on were the main species. The abundance analysis of BBL fauna from 4 stations showed that the total abundance of BBL fauna at the station with fine sand sediments was lower than that at the station with silt-clay sediments. For these two sedimentary conditions, the BBL fauna could be formed, basing on species and abundance, into two Bray-Curtis clusters joining at a distance of 26.55%. The abundance analysis of BBL fauna from 19 stations showed that the total abundance of BBL fauna at the north-east station was higher. The diversity analysis of BBL fauna from 4 stations showed that the evenness was high (0.7282-0.9146), the number of species (20-34) and the diversity index (2.248-2.827) was low. According to different BBL fauna, the species composition of Suprabenthos was the most diverse, the diversity of Mosezooplankton was higher than that of Microzooplankton and Macrozooplankton. The diversity was similar between day and night. The abundance of BBL fauna at the station 1-3 was lower than the other three stations. Two main assemblages were distinguished in relation to sediment. The diversity analysis of BBL fauna from 19 stations showed that the diversity index (1.299-2.445) was low and no significant plane character.BIOENV analysis showed that the abundance and number of BBL fauna wereobvious correlation with the depth and the vertical fluxes of POC and PON from BBLwater.
