Design And Compilation Of "Climatological Atlas For China Tropical Cyclones"

Because of the benefits of computer technology and the development of other correlative realm, thematic maps have been widely used by not only professional geographers, but also planners and other scientists and academicians. Nowadays, cartography has emphasized more on communication and visualization relying on the foundations of sciences such as geography, communication and psychology.Based on the 50-years' tropical cyclone data supplied by Shanghai Typhoon Institute, lots of statistical studies and climatological analysis have been made. This study covers the area all around Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macao and the Mainland. The technology of GIS is also widely used in the process of data pretreatment.There are only a few atlases for China tropical cyclones in the realm of meteorology since China was founded. To compile a professional atlas of originality and speciality, detailed study has been focused on topic selection, map symbols, map legends, representation methods and so on. This article also discusses the technology flow of using graphics and image softwares in complication and publication of thematic maps. At the same time, evaluation and experimentation are considered as the basic parts in the design process.
