Phase relations in the Ce-Mg-Ni ternary system at 673K, 1123K have been investigated in this work. The main contents were as follows:The 673K and 1123K isothermal section of the phase diagram of Mg-Ni-Ce ternary system has been investigated by X-ray power diffraction, DTA, optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy techniques.The 673K isothermal section consists of 11 single-phase regions, 21 two-phase regions and 11 three-phase regions. The 11 single-phase regions are: α(Ni), β(Mg), γ(CeNi5), δ(Ce2Ni7), ε(CeNi3), ζ(CeNi2), η(CeNi), θ(MgNi2),τ(Mg2Ni), κ(CeMgNi4), λ(CeMg2Ni9). The 21 two-phase regions are: α + γ, α + γ, α + θ, γ + λ, γ + δ, γ + κ, δ+ ε, δ + κ, ε+ κ,ε+ζ,ζ+κ,θ + κ, θ+ λ, κ + λ, θ + τ, τ + κ, τ + β, β + κ,β+ζ, β + η and η + ζ.
