With the development of the computer graphic technology and human-machine interface technology, VR-GIS is a rising style of GIS, based on the traditional two- dimension GIS, which is the integration of Virtual Reality (VR) and Geographic Information System (GIS). VR-GIS extends the application fields of GIS, at the same time, it brings some new issues for the design of GIS ~ how to make use of the GIS spatial data and property data better in order to show the geographic environment by the means of three-dimension virtual scenes for the users, as well as to embody the three characters of VR, such as Immersion, Interaction, Imagination. VR-GIS is also one of the focuses and tends for GIS field.This paper refers to some primary issues about the integration of VR and GIS, and mainly introduces what an important role GIS plays in the integration. The author participates in the designing and implementation of Mini VR-GIS, which is a platform for designing the virtual scenes based on geographic information.
