The newly released third-generation ocean wave model WAVEWATCH (version 2.22) was used to model the ocean wave distributions in the South China Sea. The wind data from June to October, 2001, to drive the wave model was the re-analyzed wind field from NCEP. The measured wave and wind data were from a buoy station positioned at the northeast of Taiwan. 4 months simulations were carried out to prediction the ocean waves in the South China Sea. Comparisons of the simulated wave heights and periods were shown to agree well with the measured data.Influences of ocean waves on the military operations were in the South China Sea were also concerned in :his paper. Details of ocean wave distributions around Taiwan were analyzed.
