Solid phase forming of polymer can increase toughness of thermoplastic part and reduce time of manufacturing process. Among solid phase forming process of polymer, thermoforming process is being used increasingly due to its many advantages, the market for the thermoforming process is significantly expanding. Concurrently, part development times must be reduced to accommodate new market requirements. In order to achieve these goals, instead of practical trial and error processes, putting the reasonably established mechanical and mathematical model for the real forming process in computer simulation can greatly save time and reduce cost to achieve numerical solution which has can guide the practical production. Once thickness distributions have been estimated using computer simulation of a given process , structural design considerations based on maximum deflection and stresses can be properly taken into account at an early phase in the engineering design process. The main contents of the research done are summarized as follows: 1. Starting from the finite strain virtual power equation and continuous equilibrium equation based on Updated Lagrange method, the thermo-elasto-visco-plastic finite element equations fit for general situations of thermoforming simulation are derived. This set of finite element equation is suitable for analyzing finite strain problem concerning temperature and strain rate sensitivity. 2. Introduces the plane shell element, which is obtained by combining the DKT quadrilateral plate element with the quadrilateral membrane isoparametric element, into the thermo-elasto-visco-plastic virtual power equation, and establishes the spacial implicit finite element equations which have the...
