Mathematical morphology is a new developing science. It is based on strict mathematical theory, and provides a systematic approach to analyze the geometric characteristics of signals or images. And it has been applied widely to many fields such as image processing, medical signal processing, speech signal processing and so on.Seismic signal filtering and fracture detection are important to geologist and oil reservoir engineers. Thus, this thesis attempts to introduce mathematical morphology in the earthquake exploration filed, and mainly discusses applications of mathematical morphology in respect of seismic signals processing. The main research contents are the mathematical morphology theory and the basic arithmetic; the applications of mathematical morphology in the seismic signal processing; and have made two achievements as follows:1. Providing an overview of morphological filters, an example of wavelet model is illustrated. Then according to the characteristic of the seismic signal, we construct and design a morphological filter, which is applied to the filtering of artificial synthetical seismic section and real seismic section, the result is satisfied.2. Studying operators of morphological edge detection, morphological edge detection of Lena image is illustrated, the effect is good. Then we construct an operator of morphological edge detection, which is applied to the seismic fracture detection, the result is obvious. The result of research indicates it is feasible to process seismic signals based on mathematical morphology. And mathematical morphology has the merits of simple algorithm, fast operation and parallel running, has prospect of popularizing and applying.
