Structural topology optimization has been treated as one of the most challenging tasks in structural optimization design, and is an innovative approach. For the problem of topology optimization designs of continuum structures, this paper summarizes and analyzes the present status and the development of Evolutionary Structural Optimization method. An Ishai stress optimization criterion is introduced to solve the optimization designs of structures made of the all-isotropic or anisotropic material, based on vehicle and engineering structure loading feature and material performance requirements. And its Bi-directional Evolutionary Structural Optimization (BESO) criteria and corresponding algorithm are given. In order to deal with the problem of combined structural topology optimization, a basic algorithm idea is proposed. At the same time, combined structural element stress level with the relative difference quotients, for the combined topology optimization problem of continuum structures with size and topology variables, a set of stress sensitivity numbers for beam and plate structures are derived, a set of optimum criteria are set up, and a new topology optimization procedure is given. Three-dimension continuum structural topology optimization method has been researched in the paper, based on the structural finite element model preprocess and postprocess software developed by France, and a set of three-dimension continuum structural topology optimization software has been developed in this paper. Based on the mentioned-above methods and software, a lot of simulation examples of dealing with automobile components are given. Results obtained show that the proposed methods in this paper are correct and efficient, are of good engineering application value.
