A new type of the vertical pipe cyclone impeller separator is developed and studied by both experiments and numerical calculation. The resistance and separating efficiency of the vertical pipe cyclone impeller separator are studied by experiment. Based on CFD technic, the fluid flow in separator is analysed.Based on the data of experiment, the effect of different impellers and length of guide sticks on main performance parameters of separator is found. There are twelve different impellers were tested. The resistance and separating efficiency of two types of impellers with different vane number, elevation and the length of guide stick are compared.The numerical study of the vertical pipe cyclone impeller separator is carried out by FLUENT. The flow of the separator with a impeller, it is vanes number m=12, elevation α = 30°, and the length of guide stick L/Dx=1, is simulated and calculated. Realizable k-ε turbulent model and Discrete Phase Model(DPM) are selected. Equation of Navier-Stokes is solved by SIMPLE method. The boundary of the model is obtained from experimental data. The result of simulation fits experimental data well.Numerical simulation shows more details than experiment about fluid flow in cyclone impeller separator. With the data of numerical simulation, the movement of particles of discrete phase is analysed. Numerical simulation shows particulars fluid and pressure distribution in the separator. The method supply a new way to improve the structure of vertical pipe cyclone impeller separators.With the data of experimental and numerical study, a programme is designed to calculate the structure parameters of separator with Visual Basic. The programme is useful for practical designing of the vertical pipe cyclone impeller separators.
