The geographic information system develops quickly, because it's more powerful in managing and analyzing of spatial information than common management information system. In the global cooperation commerce times, more than 85 percent of enterprise's or management department's decision-making data relatives to spatial location, such as distribution of customers and market region, transportation of raw material, multinational manufactory, multinational sells, etc. Through integrating GIS and MIS, supervisors can make decision according to credibility data.Nowadays, component software technology is a direction of software development. To adapt this technology, "Like other software, GIS software has changed deeply. It transfer from that in the past a company supply the whole system or with secondary develop function to that users develop the software supplied by a company in component method." No doubt, the GIS technology base on component will deeply change the whole GIS system and its application patterns.This research is mainly about developing component GIS. It involves the science of surveying and mapping, such as the principle and data organization methods of geographic information system, spatial index, optimal route planning algorithm, COM, object oriented programming, and design pattern, etc.Firstly, it introduces geographic information system's technology status, technology background and developing direction. Then we give a suggested solution Mapbase2 system based on COM technology. Moreover, through analyzing typical GIS data model, we design Mapbase2 data model including object model and model for secondary memory. In implementing Mapbase2 system, we use proper design pattern, add network module, and use R-Tree to accelerate displaying and Searching. We also analyze several optimal route planning algorithms. Finally, this thesis summarizes the factor that should be considered in the period of Mapbase2 development and gives the result of Mapbase2 performance based on Beilun GIS project.
