Energy saving has become very important issue recently, due to the world wide energy crisis. Nano materials such as carbon nanotubes (CNT) and GaN possess a potential application for high efficiency solid state lighting. In this paper CNT based field emission lamp (C-FEL) and white light-emitting diode (W-LED) are systemically studied. For C-FEL, the properties of cathode and anode are studied and optimized. Before the CNTs are printed on the cathode glass, the CNTs are treated by high energy ball-milling. After treatment for adequate time, the CNTs can be cut and become more uniform, which lead to the uniformity, stabilization of the emission.Aluminum thin film is deposited on phosphor by magnetron sputtering. When the thickness of" the Al film is about 20nm, the conductivity and adhesion can be improved, and the brightness and life of fluorescence screen can be enhanced. Finally the prototype of C-FEL device is fabricated by using vacuum sealing and related power supply. For LED, the optoelectronic properties are measured, and the optimized parameters are selected, and the related device circuit is designed and tested. By integration of the W-LED and the drive circuit, the prototype of W-LED lamp is fabricated.By optimized of the materials properties and fabrication process, the high efficiency solid state lighting including C-FEL and W-LEDs can be fabricated and promised potential applications in the future.
