The Bohai Sea and the Yellow Sea are the semi-enclosed shallow seas, which have the special environment and dynamic characteristics. The structures of temperature and salinity, the formation mechanism of the well-mixed warm water column in the central Bohai Sea and the corresponding current field are the important topics in the physical oceanography in this area. Based on a three-dimensional numerical model, the paper investigates the seasonal variations of the temperature and current field in the Bohai Sea and the Yellow Sea. Firstly, it uses the Princeton ocean model (POM) to discuss the effect of surface wave mixing, short-wave radiation and tidal mixing on the vertical temperature structure in summer in the Bohai Sea and the Yellow Sea. In the following, the paper studies the formation mechanism of the well-mixed warm water column in the central Bohai Sea in summer. Based on the successful simulation of the seasonal variations of temperature, it analyses the seasonal variation of current field in the Bohai Sea and the Yellow Sea.The numerical experiments show that the surface wave mixing is important to the formation of upper mixing layer and the tidal mixing controls the temperature structure of the deeper layer near the bottom in the Bohai Sea and the Yellow Sea in summer. The influence of the short-wave radiation to the vertical temperature structure can not be neglected in summer. The combination effects of the wave mixing and tidal mixing are the dominant factors of the seasonal thermocline formation in the Bohai Sea and the Yellow Sea in summer. This conclusion is basically...
