The development of follicles in mammalian ovary is a highly intricate and complex biological process under regulation by a variety of factors. The functional unit of ovary is the single ovarian follicle, which comprises one oocyte surrounded by granulosa cells and theca cells. The hormones from anterior pituitary control the development of individual follicles by triggering sequential, dynamic changes in granulosacell proliferation and differentiation. On the other hand, granulosa cells also influence the oocytes maturation by paracrine pathway and gap-junction communication. So the follicular development is a special progress in which the events of cell cycle are controlled by exact regulatory mechanisms. Concerning about the oocytes, there are many aspects in which the oocytes differ from any other cell type in the body. Oocytes maturation is a special meiosis cell cycle in which oocytes must undergo two arrested stages. In the past years, much attention has been paid to molecules that are responsible for the follicular development and oocytes maturation. But it is still uncertain for the complicated molecular progress. As special kind of protein, cyclins are important in regulating cell cycle.
