Reissner-Mindlin plate is an important model of aeronautics and astronauticsstructure. As we all known, while using traditional displacement finite element meth-ods to approximate this model, shearing locking will occur. Traditional mixed hybridfinite element methods, which can circumvent the locking-instability, require the sat-isfaction of K-elliptic condition and inf-sup condition. Therefore, constructions oflower-order element is very difficult. Recently, Zhou proposed a combined hybridfinite element method and studied the intrinsic mechanism that lead finite elementschemes to attain high performance. This paper has introduced two kinds of combined hybrid varational formulationsfor plate bending finite elements based upon the Reissner-Mindlin theory, according towhether assumed constant moment stress is introduced when assumed constant shearstress has been introduced. Due to two options for incompatible displacement modes, four new types of combined hybrid elements are proposed. A set of standard tests forboth thin and thick plates show that new elements perform well.
