At the beginning of the last century, facing the prosperous situation of the foreign countries and the poor passive situation of China, H.C.Zen brought up the great ideas of saving the nation through science. In order to put his ideas into effect, H.C.Zen published the Science, established the Science Community of China, and did his best to introduce the whole science to Chinese. He also put forward and implemented many constructive measures to the development of China's science cause. All that he did had accelerated the dissemination of the western science, promoted the systematic course of science and developed the science cause of China. Although ninety years has passed since then, Zen's ideas still has reference meanings to our strategy of "revitalizing the country through science and education". Basing on this, the thesis was written to explain Zen's thought of saving the nation through science from four respects. The first part is about the background of H.C.Zen's thought of saving the nation through science. In Zen's early years, he had thought of saving the country through revolutionary. But when he went on studying in U.S.A., he changed his idea. This change had important connection with his own experience especially the experience studying in U.S.A. which made him think that science was playing the key role in determining a nation's density in the world. In China, just because we lack science, we was poor and passive. Therefore, Zen proposed the ideas of saving the nation through science, and initiated the movement of saving the nation through science. The second part explained the contents of the thought. When the science was published, H.C.Zen did his best to introduce the definition , attribute and relevant problems of science to his compatriots, and gradually formed a set of relatively intact convincing new and unique system of saving the nation through science. This part was divided into four small parts. 1. "What is science": The basic problem that we should know if we wanted to saving the nation through science;2. The weapon to save the nation: science method. InZen's opinions, science method was the seeds of science, only through which science could grow, develop, and only with which, the society could be settled;3. The foundation to settle the nation: Science spirit. H.C.Zen thought science spirit was the origin of modern science and only by science spirit science could be prosperous day by day. Science spirit is the foundation of a nation, and it also is the only way to save our country. "The Chinese's prosperity must depend on it.";4. Science function and valuation: Science has important relationship with industry, agriculture, national defense, life and morals, democracy etc., which is the reason that science can be used to save the nation. The third part is about H.C.Zen's exploration and practice in saving the nation. In order to put his ideas into practice, H.C.Zen took many measures, including four respects: Published the monthly magazine of science, established the Science Community of China, propagated the essence of science; To develop science career by advocating science research; To train the successor of the science career through scientific education, and try to bring up scientists; The countermeasures in developing science career: a series of practical schemes H.C.Zen had done in order to realize his ideal. The fourth part is a brief comment. Systematically summarize the historic significance, realistic meaning and the limitation of the thought. The research approache in writing the thesis is mainly induction, summarizing the existing material, selecting the main points, essence among them to explain Zen's thought of saving the nation through science. Comparative analytic approach is secondly, working out the historic significance, realistic meaning and the limitation of the thought through comparison and analysis. In the end, the thought of Zen's saving the nation through science was systematically and integrally worked out.
