Shell morphological parameters of Anodonta eight populations, A. arcaeformis, A. woodiana woodiana, A. woodiana piscatorum, A. woodiana elliptica, A. mingorum, A. castanea, A. lucida, A. sp. which was collected in Jiangxi and Hubei proviences, were measured and analysed by using cluster analysis, principal component analysis and discriminant analysis. Meanwhile, nucleotide sequences of the mitochondrial 16S rRNA partial gene of seven populations and rDNA ITS1 gene of six populations of genus Anodonta (Unionidae) were measured. Also, nucleotide sequences of rDNA ITS1 gene two populations of Hyriopsis (Unionidae) were obtained. According to those data, an examination of taxonomic status of Anodonta and Hyriopsis species was. made. The results are below.1) The phylogenetic trees based on nucleotide sequences of the mitochondrial 16S rRNA partial gene and nuclear ITS1 gene of seven populations of Anodonta suggest that these populations should be divided into distinct two groups: one group including A. sp. and A. arcaeformis, which is a primary group; another one including A. castanea, A. woodiana piscatorum, A. woodiana woodiana, A. woodiana elliptica, A. mingorum, which is the latest divided group.2) The shell morphological characters and the molecular phylogenetic data reveal that A. castanea, A. woodiana piscatorum, A.
