| There exists rigorous vector diffraction theory as well as approximate scalar diffraction theory. The results from scalar theory is rather satisfied when the period of a grating is much larger than wavelength of the incident beam, but if the period is comparable to or smaller than the wavelength, the hypotheses and approximate conditions of scalar theory are no longer rational, and vector analysis must be used for discussing the properties of grating diffraction. Many theoretical works are reported, and some different properties for scalar method are demonstrated in this field recently. However, there are few experimental works in investigating the diffraction properties in vector condition.Grating manufacture is discussed, vector diffraction of grating is studied in this paper to find diffraction rules of grating for polarized light and division between vector diffraction and scalar diffraction. In the experiments P-polarized light diffraction and S-polarized light diffraction are investigated respectively.Ii is found in studying plane holographic grating that polarization diffraction intensity ratio monotonously varies with incidental angle; grating has different diffraction result for different polarized light. |
