Seismic data collection is the basis of processing and interpretation. It plays a very important role in seismic exploration. In order to acquire seismic data with high quality, the geometry has to be designed properly. Traditionally, geometry analysis is based on a single physical point or the theory of horizontal stacking. But, nowadays, the exploration object becomes more and more complicated. The traditional geometry analysis is not fit for many complicated structures. In this paper, the establish of geological model and illumination are studied. The results of illumination are useful to judge the quality of geometry and helpful to optimize geometry in complicated area.First, this paper discusses the method of geometry optimization. Firstly, the forward modeling model should be constructed according to the geological and seismic documents. Then, some kinds of forward modeling should be carried out against this model. Finally, the results of forward modeling can be used to direct the optimization of geometry.Geological model is the basis of forward modeling. During building 2-D geological model, I use the concepts of point, section and line. Point includes the control points of interfaces and the intersection point between formation and fault. Section is a line segment that has two extreme points exist on a same interface or a same fault. Line embodies a whole interface or fault, which consists of a group of section. Because interface intersects fault, fault is divided into several line segments. The attributes of formation above each line segment or beneath each line segment can be different. As a result, the wire-frame model can describe complicated structure properly. Then, I use a method called "block recognition" to convert wire-frame model to block model. Experiments show that wire-frame model can meet the need of complicated structure.After building geological model, I pay much attention to the study of illumination, which includes the illumination based on ray tracing and the illumination based on Huygens-Fresnel principle.In the research of illumination based on ray tracing, In this paper, shooting method, iterative ray tracing method and total iterative ray tracing method are discussed.
