The age of the Dali man found in 1978 is always the focus question in archeology and geology. Different scholars got different results with their private methods, including paleontology (Wu and You, 1979), U-series (Chen et al, 1984), thermoluminescence (Sun et al, 1991), ESR (electron spin resonance) (Yin et al, 2001) and IRSL (Infra Red Stimulated Luminescence) (Yin et al, 2002). In brief, the age spans from 180ka to 300ka. The stratigraphy above the bed-bearing Dali skull is not typical. As a result, the identification of the Loess-Paleosol in Dali is not identical. Some scholars studying stratigraphy presented theirselves view points. There is only one paleosol in Dali section (Zhu et at, 1994).
