Artemisia halondendron is growing as the constructive species of semi-shrub in Horqin sandy land, China, and is important for preventing drift-sand and sand storms, generally serving as a dominated species of desert vegetation communities. In order to quest for seasonal population ecology character and habitat fitness during shifting sandy land is fixed, types of Artemisia halodendron community were classified through analyzing its habitat, structure of community and ecological charactors, as well as seasonal charactors of soil factors in different sandy lands were studied to analysis the charactors of population and habitat fitness during the shifting sandy land was fixed, the importance of population along a succession gradient were studied..The results are as follows:1. The Artemisia halodendron communities were divided into three kinds of community types: Artemisia halodendron —annual herbage(pioneer community),Artemisia halodendron — perennial grass and Artimisia frigida — Artimisia scoparia+perennial grass(steppe community). This three kinds of community types respectively distribute on the shifting sandy land,semi-fixed sandy land and fixed sandy land.2. CVI of population was different significantly between different type sandy lands (p=0.000 ) , and declined significantly from shifting sandy land to fixed sandy land. The biological index for calculating CVI can be decided based on ecological and biological charactors of the object studied, and measure conditons.3. The Rhizosphere effect of soil bacteria of Artemisia halodendron was the most obvious on shifting sandy land, that of semi- withered Artemisia halodendron was the least on fixed sandy land because it had lost basically physiological active, and the roots had mostly withered. Change of rhizosphere effect was another important factor of population decline.4. During the growing season, there were two types about transpiration curve, it was double peak type, as the time passed, changed to single peak type.Transpiration rate was positive correlative with air temperature and photosynthesis active radiation, and negative correlative with air relative humidity. The relation between transpiration rate of Artemisia halondendron and environmental factors on different type sandy lands can be described by linear regression...
