The complexes of imidazole and its derivatives with transition?metal ions have gained considerable attention for a long time,and some of them can be used potentially to optics,magnetic,catalysis and bioactivities.In order to prepare and research the complexes of transition-metal ions with imidazoles,the complexes of 4,5-dimethyl-2-(2-pyridyl)imidazole and 2-(2-pyridyl)benzimidazole have been synthesized and characterized,and their crystal structures were determined by X-ray analysis.This thesis is composed of the following three sections:Part I.4,5-dimethyl-2-(2-pyridyl)imidazole was synthesized from pyridine-2-aldehyde, and 2-(2-pyridyl)benzimidazole was prepared from 2-picoline and o-phenylenediamine.Their structures were confirmed by IR, 1H-NMR and MS.Part II . The complexes of [Cu(DPIm)2Im](ClO4)2 , [Cu(PBIm)2BIm](ClO4)2 and [Ni(Im)6](NO3)2·H2O have been prepared,and their crystal structures were determined by X-ray analysis.The crystal structures of DPIm·H2O and PBIm were also determined.Their crystal structures show that the imidazole ring and pyridine ring in DPIm·H2O are in a same plane, but the pyridine ring and benzimidazole moiety in PBIm do not share a common plane, the dihedral angle between them is 13.76°.The copper(II) ions of [Cu(DPIm)2Im](ClO4)2 and [Cu(PBIm)2BIm](ClO4)2 have trigonal-bipyramidal geometries with the chromophore of CuNN'2N"2.The nickel(II) ion of [Ni(Im)6](NO3)2·H2O has an octahedral geometry with the chromophore of NiN6.Part III.The ESR spectra of [Cu(DPIm)2Im](ClO4)2 and [Cu(PBIm)2BIm](ClO4)2 were measured at low temperature (110K).The g-values of [Cu(DPIm)2Im](ClO4)2 are g1=2.275 and g2=2.064,and those of [Cu(PBIm)2BIm](ClO4)2 are g1=2.272 and g2=2.073.The electronic absorption spectra in thin solution and thermal gravimetric analyses of [Cu(DPIm)2Im](ClO4)2,[Cu(PBIm)2BIm](ClO4)2 and [Ni(Im)6](NO3)2·H2O were also measured.Thermal gravimetric analyses shows that as temperature rise,the two complexes of [Cu(DPIm)2Im](ClO4)2 and [Cu(PBIm)2BIm](ClO4)2 decompose rapidly at a certain termperature .
