Coastal zone and estuary are important zones that people make production and live on. In these zones, its population is the largest, its economy is the most developed, and it has been well exploited. However, in these areas, tide phenomenon is more evidently, it has a great effect on people's activities directly and indirectly. So it's meaningful for people to study tide, it's meaningful for the development of the society。 At present, there are mainly two ways to study tide: one is the harmonic analysis method of tides, the other is tidal dynamics. This paper mainly discusses some theories and application of the harmonic analysis method of tides. This paper studies the phenomena of tide in the following aspects:First, it introduces the basic theories and the basic concepts of tide. As well, it introduces the method for the harmonic analysis of tides while using one year long data, and then it presents the appraisal criterion of precision.Second, Unexpectable situation such as bad weather or apparatus problems will cause some other cases, for example, tidal level data can't be measured completely or contains great errors. Aim at these cases, according to multiple harmonic analysis method, this paper presents a new method for the iterative harmonic analysis of tides based on the least square method of continuous function, as well as the condition when this method converges. Compared with the general multiple harmonic analysis method, the present method not only can reduce the computation quantity greatly, but also needn't use some method to complete or replace original data in advance. Then it applies this method in several situations, the results show that this method is effective.Third, original arguments of tide constituents are expressed by Doodson numbers, for simplification of calculation, the present method uses angular rate to express arguments, omitting the second order term and the third order term. This maybe introduces error. This paper directly uses Doodson numbers to express argument, and then uses the arguments to the harmonic analysis method. It sets up a method for the harmonic analysis of tides based on Doodson numbers, and then applies the method into practical situation. It has proved the feasibility of express arguments by angular...
