The coastal terrain features and neritic features varied because of the erosion from sea waves, sediment,changes of sea level, manual coast construction and the exploitation of beach resources.As a result of these changes,the value to use coastal topographic maps were depressed.So the data must be updated in order to ensure the currency of maps and geographic information data.However,there are two factors to make up the period to update the coastal map data,one is the strategic status of the area,the other is the rate of the coastal mapping features' transformation.And the most important factor is coastline features. Thus,we concentrated to sum up and analyse the cause of coastline transformation,and imposed the space remote sensing data to carry on the supervision, statistics and analysis to the transformation,and the purpose is to master the coastal changes on our mainland to acquire the foundation to make up the period to update the coastal map data.Our study was concentrated on the following questions:1. Expatiated the background of this study and the aspect and keystone of the research inside and outside the country.2. Introduced and analysed the cause of coastline transformation,and summarized several methods in common use to carry on the variety check.3. On the base of the introduction of the classical edge detecting arithmetic,we implemented the coastline distilled arithmetic based on the biorthogonal wavelet multi-scales conversion and the fractal theory.4. Combined with the chromatism theory,we improved Canny arithmetic and omnidirectional multiscale morphological operators,put forward the coastline distilled arithmetic on the base of Canny arithmetic based on the chromatism theory or the morphological chromatism theory which was aimed at multicolor remote sensing image,at the same time,we compared all the arithmetic to know that the arithmetic based on the chromatism theory was best of all.5. We proposed the arithmetic which made use of cross,perpendicular or circle to carry on the transformation statistics and analysis on the data from some image or maps after registration,and compared to know that the arithmetic which made use of perpendicular or circle was better.6. We measured the variety of the coastlines which were different in types from representational area to get their rate and compared all the results.
