Spatial data sharing has always been a bottleneck of GIS applications,and drawn people's attention on spatial data sharing.So it becomes a hot issue of research on GIS.Data interoperability is a best way to spatial data sharing ,but it still has difficulty in sharing data ,because of there is much data which is autonomous and not accorded with the OpenGIS standard.Middleware has stood out in information resource sharing,so we could adopt the concept of middleware to spatial data sharing,which will not only shield the heterogeneity and complexity among multi-spatial data,but also overcome the disadvantage of data interoperability.In the paper , a spatial data exchange middleware is designed ,based on the middleware.The main works and highlights are as follows :1, A new spatial data exchange middleware model is proposed .The structure andexchanging methods of the model are explained in detail.2, The data exchange middleware is created by the visible environment based on thetechnique of semantic mapping ,in which people could explain their data logic expediently .3, Five kernel data APIs (metafile data, geometry data , attribute data , style data andhost software data)are designed and realized to control and manage the progress of dataexchange.4, The methods of spatial data exchange middleware on stand-alone computer orClient/Sever or Browser/ Sever are put forward .At last the paper is given a example of data exchange system based on data exchange middleware, and evaluated the result of data exchange and verifided the feasibility of the data exchange middleware in spatial data sharing.
