Nonlinear optics has become one of the most active fields. Z-scan technology is an important innovation for optical measuring non-linearity, the advance of optics is greatly promoted by it. The experimental theory of the technology is stated in this paper. The laser system of Z-scan is especially discussed. Furthermore the characteristic of the beams suitable for Z-scan is analyzed. The stable Gaussian beam is outputed by using aperture and telescope cavity based on the theory of optical resonator.And the reliability and stability of those systems is discussed. After unceasing practice and research on the paper about this subject, an idea to promote the Z-scan technology by using Top-Hat beams is presented. With this technology, the accuracy of the measurement can be enhanced 2.5 times than ever before. The Gaussian mirrors are used to achieve the Top-Hat beams stable output in the experiment. Finally, some non-linear samples are tested by the Z-scan system,and the data is gained.
