Landslide is one of the most popular styles of natural disasters , it often happens with earthquakes or rainstorms, The important reasons causing landslides are human activity that sloping, building dams or embankments(especially on soft base),digging ground engineering, sluicing in reservoirs, etc. Therefore, many researchers focus on landslides in many aspects.This paper deals with the case of xiakou landslide at which lies the gorge area on the left bank of Longxi River valley in Ya'an, Sichuan. after collecting and reading extensively the reports on landslide engineering home and abroad, using in situ research and referring to the monitoring data, the writer gets a general know about the deformation mechanism and the influential factors of the xiakou landslide, gives a pilot study on the mechanism of rainfall effecting on the stability of the xiakou landslide, and labors the stability of the landslide.There are some reasons for the reactivation of Xiakou landslide according to the research result. dip rock formation alternating with soft and hard rocks constitutes the main control surface of the reactivation, and the stratum fissures develop, and the rock mass crashes; Rainfall and normal erosion are the main cause of the reactivation; Meanwhile, the groundwater have a heavy effect on the slope stability.On the whole water table in the front changed more obviously than that of other parts. The water table fluctuated with the season. Its change is consistent with the rainfall, and it has a corresponding connection with the slope displacement.To analyze the stability of Xiakou landslide, the paper uses limited balance method and numeric simulation. The calculation results indicate that in natural conditions there is a deformation trend to move towards outside of the slope and downwards. When the landslide is saturated this kind of deformation is marked. With increase of degree of saturation in the landslide there will occur extension of plastic zone. While heavy rains happen, especially super rainstorm, the slope will likely slide.
