Laser ranger finder is widely applied in civilian and military fields. The thesis is devoted to the investigation of some key techniques developing laser range finder. The laser propagation in atmosphere is studied and the aligment of optical axes is tried out.The principle equation of rang-finding is deduced according to the basic performance of the laser beam. On the basis of the principle, the main factors which affect laser echoes are analyzed. With Lowtran 7, the atmosphere transmission from sun is researched and the radiation from atmosphere background is explored. The laser ranging space is computed using relation between attenuation coefficient and altitude of observation point in atmosphere. In the condition, the space is more accurate.In the thesis, the alignment of optical axes is researched and detection of echoes of lasers is discussed during the trial of our engineering project of Laser ranger finder. Then the precision of optical axes is analyzed. The method of aligning of axes is given, which is practical, effective and feasible. Last, the detection of echoes and reliability of laser range finder are discussed in trail of engineering project.
