Composites or structures consisting of piezoelectric and piezomagnetic materialscan facilitate the conversion between mechanical, electric and magnetic energies. Dueto these coupling effects, piezoelectric-piezomagnetic composites are potentialcandidates for use as sensors, magnetoelectric control components, microwavedevices as well as other electric products. These possible applications call fortheoretical investigation into some fundamental mechanics problems ofpiezoelectric-piezomagnetic composite media. In this dissertation, the propagation of shear horizontal (SH) waves are studied inthree types of the layered media composed of piezoelectric and piezomagneticmaterials. The main works are as follows.Firstly, the propagation of Love waves in layered structures is investigated fortwo cases: a piezomagnetic layer on a piezoelectric half space and the reverseconfiguration. The surface of the layer is mechanically free and subjected to fivekinds of electromagnetic boundary conditions. The dispersion equations are presentedexplicitly for the said boundary conditions. Based on the dispersion equations, numerical calculations are carried out to show the influence of the boundaryconditions on the dispersion behaviors. We find that the dispersion behaviors dependon the materials of the surface layer. When the surface layer is piezomagnetic, themagnetic boundary conditions dominate the propagation properties of the Love waves.Similarly, the propagation properties of the Love waves are controlled by the electricboundary conditions when the surface layer is piezoelectric.Secondly, the SH wave propagation is considered in the layered space consistingof a piezomagnetic layer and two piezoelectric half-spaces. The propagation velocityof the SH wave are assumed to be larger than the velocity of the bulk shear wave ofthe piezomagnetic layer but less than the velocities of the bulk shear wave ofpiezoelectric materials. The dispersion equation for this case is expressed indeterminant form. The numerical results indicate that the larger the velocity of the...
