Tower is the crucial part of derrick and directly affects the safety of it, so it is quite important to calculate the strength, rigidity and stability of the tower accurately. Meanwhile in the drilling process, the wind load toward the tower and steel wire is transferred to each part of the system via the connection of the components, thus leads to the overall and local dynamic responses. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze and calculate the performance of the tower when it is exerted pull, press, torsion and wind load in order to design a stable, secure and reliable tower. The characteristic and mechanism of impact drilling machine are introduced followed by the summary of the present status of impact drilling machine tower researches at home and abroad. Based on the finite-element method (FEM), the 3-dimesion FE model of impact drilling machine tower was developed through the finite-element analysis (FEA) software ANSYS. The strengths of the tower under different working conditions are analyzed by setting the restrictions and boundary conditions according to the actual construction case. The model results of the derrick are also analyzed. The optimum design of impact drilling machine tower system can be developed based on the data and result.
