This paper is one part of The Plan of Ocean Scientific Research In the tenth five-year project, its main work is to find a new technology of the ocean terrain modeling. The new technology will support the display of the ocean terrain in The Assistant Operating System of The Research and Exploration Vessel "DA YANG 1 HAO", promote the technology level of China's ocean research and exploration.The display of the ocean terrain is an important assistant operation in the research and exploration of the ocean. This Paper uses the TIN (triangulated irregular network) construction to represent the ocean terrain. It takes the LOD(levels of details) technology to make the whole TIN data into different pieces and levels according to the standard of the different precisions, in order to increase the speed of display in the compute.The following points are the features of this paper:(1) Multivariate AnalysisIn the process of making different levels of the TIN data, this paper takes several different variables to calculate the important value of every terrain point. Then use the value to judge whether the terrain point could be delete or not. The Multivariate Analysis is used to keep the characteristic information of the terrain as precise as possible when delete the terrain points.(2) Flooded Edge Point MethodIn the whole process of making different pieces and levels of the TIN data, this paper uses the Flooded Edge Point Method to resolve the problem with the joint of different pieces in different levels The Flooded Edge Point Method is used to make the joint of the different pieces in different levels precisely right.(3) real-time displayThis paper uses the LOD technology to make the whole TIN data into different pieces and levels according to the standard of the different precisions. This work will increase the process speed and the display speed in the compute, making the real-time display of the terrain more comfortable, especially with the large data.In addition to the study of the theory, this paper also develops the system of the ocean terrain modeling with the developmental tool of Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0, which is used to prove the theory.
