Based on the maximum circumferential stress criterion of brittle fracture for theâ…¤-notch problem with the mixed modelâ… andâ…¡in the linear elastic fracture mechanics, the method of numerical simulation for brittle fracture problem of theâ…¤-notch with the mixed modelâ… andâ…¡was proposed. ANSYS software was used to display numerical modeling of cracking process of four kinds of Plexiglas (PMMA) stretching plane specimen with the mixed-mode ofâ… andâ…¡â…¤-notch. The numerical simulation ofâ…¤-notch problem with the mixed modelâ… andâ…¡is used in the course of fracture. The critical loads and crack angle of theâ…¤-notch models cracking and the maximum circumferential stress and the crack angle of each fracture simulation course were obtained. The vary regular pattern of the maximum circumferential stress and the crack angle which followed the angle ofâ…¤-notch of the notch not crack and have cracked were summarized.Verify the method of the numerical simulation of brittle fracture forâ…¤-notch problem with the mixed modelâ… andâ…¡proposed in this paper is correct, four kinds of compoundâ… andâ…¡â…¤-notch specimens were made out of Plexiglas and the tension tests were carried out by the microcomputer-controlled tension testing machine until the specimens were broken. The experimental results show that the critical loads and crack angles of the numerical simulation for four different V-notch models coincide with the experimental results of specimens.
