The technique using electric or magnetic field to trap ions in a small region iscalled "trap". Ions are trapped in the super-high vacuum, approximately without anyperturbations. With these outstanding performances, ions' kinetics and othercharacters could be researched feasibly in the trap. This article introduces the principle of Paul trap, analyses the relationship of thetrap potential and R. F frequency. Design three sets of radio frequency trap sources, including the push-pull power amplifier, the radiator of power transistors and theinductances. Electron gun controlled circuit and detection circuit are designed in theexperiment of storage ions and R. F resonance detection.Using the electron gun impacting N2 and Hg atoms, we can get N2+ and199Hg+ ions in the Paul trap. Assisting the R. F and detection circuit we have gottheir resonance detection signals. This experiment is fundamental for our ultimate goal---the Hg+ ionmicrowave frequency standard.
