Xikou landslide in Huaying mountain is a largest event of geological hazard in our country in the late of 1980's. After its occurrence, one has regard to the stability of an adjacent mountain mass, naturally, especially to that of the slope a gully apart form and to the north side of Xikou landslide. Since the slope is similar to Xikou landslide in geo-morphological characteristics and there are arced fissures discovered in many places on the rear edge of the slope, whether the slope will lose its stability and result in a hazard, similar to that due to Xikou landslide. becomes a focus one concerns oneself with.In this paper, Maanping slope was studied. Based on in-situ geological survey and the analysis of geological data, engineering geology characteristics of slope were expatiated particularly, and geo-mechanical model of slope was proposed. Physical parameters of main rocks were obtained by rock tests and geological analogism. Properties of stress, displacement and the extension of failed regions of the slope both under natural state and in rainstorm stage, were calculated by FLAC. The stability of slope was analysed by engineering geological comparison method, limit equilibrium method and strength reduction finite element method. Some economical and reasonable treatment measures are advanced.Maanping slope has special geologic fabric character, whose bedrock of steep slope is cambrian dolomite, and the bedrock of gentle slope are ordovician limestone and silurian shale and silty mudstone. The composition of slope was provided with the two-ply property of up hard- down soft . The hard material is intense weathered dolomite, and the soft material are that slump-mass and colluvium alternate. The upper of the slope is claypan. F7 fault has became relatively stabilization from Holocene, which action is different to Xikou landslide's.The results of engineering geological comparison method and limit equilibrium method showed that the slope was stable. The results of FLAC numerical simulation showed that slope was stable under natural state and VII degree earthquake stage, but yielded regions in upper claypan of slope maybe extended because of quick increasement of shear stress and displacement of slope. Once yielded regions ran through, the solpe failed. Through the calculation of limit equilibrium method, the stability coefficient of whole slope is between 1.125 and 1.918. The stability coefficient of cutting through accumulation is between 1.130 and 2.090. The stability coefficient of the upper claypan in rainstorm stage is 1.047, that shows the upper claypan is lack of stabilization. The results of strength reduction finite element method basically accord with above-mentioned's.Lastly, considerating the present situation of Maanping slope, some reinforced treatment measures are advanced, such as anti-slide pile, barrel-drain and catchwater.
