Habitat Selection And Evaluation For The Sichuan Golden Monkey In Baihe Nature Reserve

Sichuan golden monkey (Rhinopithecus roxellana) is also named snob-nosed monkey,blue faced monkey .It is snob-nosed ,Ceropithecidae ,Primates, listed as Conservation I ofChina. But as the increase of human population and the utilization of the forests, the populationof golden monkey is declined sharply. At present, the research of golden monkey is lack in thehome and abroad, only some pieces of description. Between the year 2005 and 2007, the authormonitored the habitat of golden monkey (Rhinopithecus roxellana) with the geographyinformation system, remote sensing and global position system. We record the transect,altitude, forest canopy cover, the height of the tree, slope. Vanderloeg and Scavia selectiveindex was used to evaluate the golden monkey's selection for varied habitat parameter.Through the analysis, we found that golden monkey prefer to select the mountains between2000-2800m altitude. They usually showed strong habitat preference for slope (＞25°),theyusually like to staying at high forest density, area of the middle slope.Based on the result of habitat selection, we evaluate the habitat of golden monkey. Itshowed that without the human disturbances, the most suitable habitat is 20.079 km~2,12.39%of the total area ;the suitable habitat is 18.1522 km~2, 11.20% of the total area; the less suitablehabitant is64.4393 km~2, 39.77% of the total area; The unsuitable habitat is 59.5091 km~2, 36.72% of the total area .Influenced by human activities, the remaining habitat will be reduced. Inthis case, the most suitable habitat is 5.812 km~2,3.59%of the total area ;the suitable habitat is8.072 km~2 ,4.98 % of the total area; the less suitable habitant is46.920 km~2, 28.96% of the totalarea ;The unsuitable habitat is101.236 km~2, 62.48% of the total area. At last ,we analysis thelandscape pattern of Baihe Nature Reserve .The patches number are 5096;patch density is25.95;Shanon diversity index is 2.49; the mean patches area are 3.20 hm~2;path reachness is68;the total edge length is 19 011km; the edge density is 97.34m/km~2; the landscape shapeindex is 35.19. It showed that the habitat of golden monkey is fragmental.The golden monkey of Sichuan (Rhinopithecus roxellana) mainly distribute in Sichuan,Gansu, Shanxi and Hubei province of our country. At present, they inhabit in the subtropicalmountainous evergreen forest, mixed deciduous broadleaved forest, subtropical deciduousbroadleaved forest, secondary coniferous and broad-leaved mixed forest. In order to protect thegolden monkey of Sichuan, the government has built some nature reserve, such as Shennongjianatural reserve in Hubei province, Zhouzhi nature reserves in Shanxi province and Bathenature reserve of Jiu Zhaigou county in Sichuan province. In addition, some nature reserves have made great progress in protecting the golden monkey in other provinces.
